wake of the shooting at sandy hook, the push is on to add more states to that list. arizona's attorney general wants every school principal or the designee armed. in ohio, applications for one shooting course for teachers are up 20%. arming teachers is a lot like arming airline pilots. simply knowing that someone on campus might be carrying a gun could be enough to stop the bad guys. in 1997, an armed high school vice principal in mississippi did manage to stop a 16-year-old shooter on a rampage. but there was also columbine. 15 people died and the armed security guard on campus and another one nearby could not stop it. >> the nra's blanket call to arm our schools is really nothing more than a distraction. >> reporter: some teachers in utah say they want more gun training. and organizers are already planning another class for the next holiday break. cecilia vega, abc news, los angeles. >> you didn't have any armed teachers when you grew up, did you? >> i did. i had an armed teacher, not a teacher, an officer and a drug sniffing dog to go around and sniff the lockers. but i never though

rebuilding that we just had to follow up on. there was a family flooded out by superstorm sandy, even one of our abc producers helped drive them to safety. their house was flooded so badly, they could not go back home. abc's ron claiborne has this incredible story. >> reporter: in the storm ravaged town of long beach, long island, on the day after hurricane sandy, we met barbara burns standing on the front porch of the house she called home for the past 48 years, the house had five feet of floodwater in it and, worse, 100 gallons of home heating oil stored in her garage had spilled into the water. she wanted to go to a shelter but her family had no way to go anywhere. almost every car in town had been damaged by the flood. so we gave them a ride. she, her daughter maureen, her two grandchildren and mccleary, the family dog, all squeezed in with a few possessions they could grab in a hurry. producer john s achlsantucci dr them to city hall where they caught a bus to the sheller. that's the last time we saw them until a few days ago when we met mrs. burn and maureen again at their littl

welcomed scores of people from the sandy hook elementary school and greeted the children, teachers and parents. a moment of silence was observed for the 27 victims killed in the tragedy. the tribute was complete with a new york giants route of the philadelphia eagles. >>> the death toll has reached nine in a tour bus crash on an icy highway in oregon. it happened this morning in frigid conditions on interstate 84 near pendleton in northwest oregon. police say the driver of the charter bus lost control on the slick pavement. the bus skidded through a guardrail and tumbled several hundred feet down an embankment. about 40 passengers were traveling from las vegas to vancouver, british columbia. in addition to the nine passengers who died, more than 20 people including the driver were injured. they are being treated at hospitals in oregon, washington and idaho. >>> people in several parts of the u.s. face dangerous driving conditions and hazards thanks to a winter tri-fecta of snow, wind and freezing temperatures. crews kept busy plowing roads while the homeowners cleared several inche

sandy hook elementary school and greeted the children, teachers and parents. a moment of silence was observed for the 27 victims killed in the tragedy. the tribute was complete with a new york giants route of the philadelphia eagles. >>> the death toll has reached nine in a tour bus crash on an icy highway in oregon. it happened this morning in frigid conditions on interstate 84 near pendleton in northwest oregon. police say the driver of the charter bus lost control on the slick pavement. the bus skidded through a guardrail and tumbled several hundred feet down an embankment. about 40 passengers were traveling from las vegas to vancouver, british columbia. in addition to the nine passengers who died, more than 20 people including the driver were injured. they are being treated at hospitals in oregon, washington and idaho. >>> people in several parts of the u.s. face dangerous driving conditions and hazards thanks to a winter tri-fecta of snow, wind and freezing temperatures. crews kept busy plowing roads while the homeowners cleared several inches of snow from sidewalks and driveway
